About perfect

After a long snooze, we headed to Kampala to meet Debbie and Laurence Owango (who will be my second camera assistant) for lunch and to make more lists of things to get before traveling to the field site. Laurence is from the eastern part of Uganda, but now lives in Kampala with his family. He has worked with both stills photographers and videographers. Equally, he knows Kampala well and helped us immensely in shopping for food and camp needs.

While the traffic in Kampala isn’t the highlight of Uganda’s largest city, the shops are great. With both Laurence and Debbie’s help, we were able to find mattresses, sheets, blankets, buckets, machetes, tarps, tents, lanterns, and food and so on. Kristin, Ed, Mark, and I wandered the aisles of a huge supermarket trying to predict how much we would need, and of what. We have all done quite a bit of this kind of thing, and while it is not my favorite part of the job, it is really important to have what you need in the field.

After a great meal and a flurry of buying 2 months’ worth of food and supplies, we headed back to the hotel in Entebbe.

Our hotel is just amazing. It looks like a botanical garden and has lots of bird life, which I love to watch. The food is good, the beer is cold, and the beds are comfortable. What more could a person ask for?
